Wash Park Family Home

April 6, 2022

We’re kicking off 2022 strong with this bright and energetic transitional home. This was a custom build for a young family looking to grow from a townhouse to a single family home. While C2 was not involved in the overall finishes of the space, the builder had already set up nicely with great finishes and features, but color was something that was lacking and what the client was wanting. In addition to adding a personal stamp to their home, another request from the client was to rework the back patio so they were able to keep an eye on their kiddos in the yard which was originally closed off and oddly oriented.

All over changes

We stayed neutral with the color palette aside from the playful pops of color within the furnishings and some fun accent walls to fill each room. This allows for room to grow and change without having to completely renovate or redesign the space. Shades of blue and deep wine tones bring this space to life and add warmth and excitement that can evolve over time.

Throughout the house we installed custom Hunter Douglas window treatments creating uniformity, ease, and comfort with their easy to adjust window coverings. Keeping the window treatments light in color, allows for the natural light to flood into the home. Being consistent with these small details throughout the whole home is a great way to keep the home grounded after adding all your personal touches.

Conversational is the word that comes to mind when you’re in the living room. Mirroring the two custom couches from Lexington and adding the two custom recliners directly across from the fireplace makes this room comfortable, cozy, and a good place to gather with friends and family. An important need for this family was also making sure there was enough storage for their kids toys so adding storage consoles on either side of the fireplace allowed for this and added a style component as well.

In the master bedroom we wanted it to feel serene and calming. Almost like you were staying at a luxury hotel. We didn’t want the room to feel flat with all of the gray tones so a great way to add interest and texture into a space is by using wallpaper. Specifically, a textured wallpaper like grasscloth from Phillip Jeffries, is great for this purpose and by only using it as an accent wall, we were able to elevate the space and create a cozy getaway for our lovely clients while not being overwhelming. We also selected fabrics that complemented the neutral color palette and aesthetic to create the custom bedding and upholstering the chairs at the end of the bed as well. Using gray tones in this room creates a feeling of peace and serenity, something you always want to feel after a long day at work or caring for a family. This carries into the bathroom as the only color we wanted to add in here was the blue wallpaper we chose for the tub room and the fun artwork above the vanities. Keeping these spaces simple and elegant was the perfect balance from the rest of the house. Our clients wanted a space where they could come and feel relaxed, this gives them that.

The office is a good place to be playful, so for this room we wanted a big pop of color inside the custom built-ins as well as a fun half moon desk and modern pendant light. The built-ins house decor items as well as personal items and is such a fun way to create customization within the room. You can always rearrange and restyle shelving like this as your style changes throughout the years.

Powder baths are amazing for pushing design limits or experimenting with something more exciting and playful. They’re small so they’re easy and more affordable to change throughout the years when your style changes. In this powder bath, we pulled the wine tones we used throughout the house in the paint and the modern geode wallpaper and warmed it up with black and gold/beige tones.

One of our favorite rooms in this home is the nursery. Keeping the walls a simple but warm beige color makes it easy to change the style of the room as the child grows or as their family grows. A common theme throughout the home. Framing the large window with custom drapes and valance brings some playfulness into the room and a pop of color with the aqua tone that is carried in other design elements in soft baby boys nursery as well.

In the dining room we wanted to keep it simple but elegant. We added a beautiful dining room table that seats up to 8, a storage console table for extra dining sets, glasses, etc..And hanging a modern but simple chandelier above the dining table really brings everything together and the bold statement of the draptic mirror reflect the natural light pouring in as well as the host chairs in a dramatic wine color. All of these elements are anchored by a show stopping area rug that acts as the “art” in the room.

By keeping this space neutral and bringing in the natural stone on the fireplace we really created a calm and comfortable space to entertain and enjoy family time. The wet bar is equipped with plenty of cabinet space and open shelving for all of your bar needs, a sink, and lots of counter space to mix up some cocktails for your guests.

Opening up the back patio was really important for this family as they wanted to be able to not only have a space to entertain but more importantly, be able to keep an eye on the kiddos while grilling, in the kitchen, etc…we first designed a new patio that had a center, round Nisho fire pit. We then moved the gas line from the once corner fireplace and we also had to move the stairs and added an open railing for clearer sight lines to the yard. As far as furniture, we designed a custom round sectional that allowed for conversation and versatility which was covered by a custom 12’ cantilever umbrella allowing for sun control during the hot Colorado sunny summer days.

A lot can be done while staying with neutrals. This family wanted something to live in and grow in through their years of expanding. They wanted something comfortable but playful with ease to redesign and evolve through their seasons of life. With a design like this, you can keep it simple or push the envelope. Whatever season of life you might be in.
